In terms of the schedule 09 of the 13th amendment to the constitution the subject of the cooperatives has been included in the Provincial Council list Accordingly a Provincial Office of the Department of Cooperative Development is maintained under a Provincial Commissioner of Cooperative Development cum Registrar of Cooperative Societies and further two District Assistant Commissioners officers are being maintained in Badulla and Moneragala districts under two District Assistant Commissioners. Similarly the Uva Provincial Cooperative Management Development Institute has been located at Moneragala in order to produce excellent human resource and cooperative workers who can be utilized for the promotion of the Cooperative movement in the province.
